It has been over a year since I found out I was pregnant and that seems so crazy! Where did the time go?!? Let me tell you like bit about my pregnancy.
I had to keep the pregnancy to myself for about a week before I could even share the news with my husband, Jad. His family was in town when I found out. I had to stay home and work most of the week while he was out showing his family around so I kept telling him that I wanted to make sure I had a car at our place (we only had once car) incase I needed to meet them somewhere when I got off. This was a little bit of a lie. I really need to car so I could run and purchase a pregnancy test without anyone knowing. The moment I saw that I was pregnant, I was shaking, I started to cry a little, and all I could think was that it couldn’t be real. So I did what I think any woman would do…. I took about 5 more tests! All positive! Then it hit me…how do I tell my husband?!? I kept it simple. When he got home from seeing his parents off, There was a card on the counter waiting for him, I was in my office. The card stated:
“I love you. I know you are going to be a great DAD”
He came back to my office in shock and excitement. We were both excited and terrified, but we knew from that moment forward we were in it together and I could not have asked for a better partner.
My pregnancy, although I know no difference, was easy. I did not have any morning sickness, and no major pregnancy symptoms. I did have some food aversions to eggs and chicken, but no major cravings. With me being a bigger lady, I did not really show until further along, which meant I as able to wear all my normal clothes! But the best part of my pregnancy you ask?? Not gaining a single pound!
As I got closer to my due date, it become more real! The nursery was ready and the hospital bags were packed. Jad’s concern, I would not know I was in labor due to my pain tolerance. Well, I woke up in the middle of the night with small pains and decided to move to the couch where I could try and get some sleep. Jad decided to wake up, shower and come sleep in the living room as well to make sure I was OK. As the morning came, we decided it was time to call the hospital to see if we need to go in. They stated to keep an eye on the contractions and see how they progress. We deiced to take Lily, the dog, to doggy daycare and spend the last few hours along as we knew our lives were about to change.
Finally, we decided it was time to go met our baby. Unfortunately, because it was a Sunday night, we had to go into the emergency door. It was a little crazy right away, but once we got to the birthing wing and in our room, it was calming. I got all hooked up to the machines, and after a few hours, we were given the news that we were going to stay as the baby was coming! Now, at this time, Jad and I both thought we would be able to met our baby in a few hours. Little did we know it would be over 24 hours later! After many hours of labor, we were given the option to proceed via C section. I looked at Jad between sleeping and contractions and it was in that look that Jad decided that a C section would be the best thing.
45 minutes later, Our amazing Daughter, Aurora Mae was born. Based on the doctors reaction, it was a good thing we went with the C section. She explained that Aurora was staring right up at her!
Things I learned from my pregnancy/giving birth:
Everyone is different. Don’t compare your pregnancy to others. You will hear the extremes but as long as you are taking care of yourself and take time to enjoy the pregnancy, then I believe your pregnancy experience will be OK.
For me, learning to let someone else take control and for me to ask for help. You can ask my husband, and my mom and dad, I like to do things for myself and not ask for help. When pregnant, I had to trust that things would get done or ask for help so I did not over exert myself.
Thomas Rhett says it best in his song ‘Blessed’
The lights are down but you're shining
Like you always do
Everyday I'm reminded
Of the miracle of you
You're too good for coincidence
And too perfect for an accident
And I'm not sure where Heaven is
But every night I get a glimpse
And I know I'm blessed
I can't count the times I've heard
People say I'm lucky
But lucky ain't the word, oh, I'm blessed
I do believe I am blessed with an amazing daughter and I am loving watching her grow everyday.
